Treasurer – any location (Voluntary)

Could you use your financial and governance expertise to make a difference for thousands of people every year facing life-changing events in the courts?

The Personal Support Unit is an award-winning, ambitious and growing court-based nationwide charity. We provide practical and emotional support to people dealing with the Civil and Family Justice System without the aid of a lawyer. We work to empower people to represent themselves to the best of their ability at court.

We are looking to recruit a new Treasurer to replace the current office holder who has dedicated 6 years to strengthening the financial operations of the charity. The new office holder will join a well-established and highly skilled Board of ten, including senior members of the legal professions, business, higher education and the courts service. Two of the charity’s volunteers also bring a much needed ‘frontline’ perspective as Trustees.

The charity, with budgeted income in 2017/18 of£1.3m, currently has units in 21 Court Centres across 17 cities. Our service is provided by over 700 skilled volunteers supported by around 35 paid staff. Since we were founded in 2001 we have provided help on over 200,000 occasions to people facing court without a lawyer. Over 25% of this help has been in the last 12 months, reflecting both the vast need caused by changes to Legal Aid provision and our successful attempts to expand to meet more of that need.

Please see the role description for more details. The general responsibilities and person specification of PSU trustees can be found here.
