Friends' Committee

We are looking for Committee members who have experience in organising fundraising events and/or are willing to use their networks for the benefit of the PSU.

        Friends Committee

The Friends of the PSU scheme raises around £24,000 every year. Members of the scheme, known as Friends, commit to supporting the charity through regular donations, and in return, receive updates about the PSU and access to special Friends’ events.

What is a Friends’ Committee?

The Friends’ Committee is responsible for organising local events for the Friends of the PSU as part of their annual subscription.

The aim of this committee will be to organise two events per year aiming at entertaining and connecting the PSU Friends, individual supporters and corporate partners; as well as recruiting new Friends.

One event will take place in February and the other one in October. Our target is to raise £15,000 between both events. All the money raised by the Committee will go to support the PSU.

What are we looking for?

We would like committee members who have specialist skills in fundraising and event management. As the fundraising target is £20,000, we require volunteers who have extensive experience in those particular fields.

  • Willingness to raise awareness of the PSU
  • Are looking for a long-term, flexible volunteering role
  • Enjoy fundraising and would like to connect with like-minded people
  • Are a good communicator, as you will be working with a wide range of different people
  • Are collaborative and team focused, as you will take part in regular meetings and discussion
You will be asked to attend meetings approximately every 6 weeks.

What difference will you make?

The Friends Committee are vital in enabling us to support people alone in court. Through organising fundraising events, you give us a secure base from which to plan for the future. This makes a real difference to the way our volunteers are able to help people in need.

Opportunities and benefits from joining your local Friends’ Committee

  • A short and detailed induction into the PSU, how we operate and a tour of the PSU based in the Royal Courts of Justice
  • Acquiring further skills in fundraising, marketing, event management, networking, persuasive writing and volunteering
  • Ongoing support through regular communication and one to one phone calls or face to face meetings (upon request) from the PSU Fundraising team
  • An opportunity to forge new friendships and network, both in the Committee and in the legal sector
