Leave a gift

For over 16 years, the PSU has been helping people alone in court. With your help, we will continue supporting people in the future.

Widespread cuts to civil legal aid mean thousands of people are being forced to undergo legal proceedings alone. In the next three years, 50% of people in England and Wales will experience a civil justice problem. Many people won’t be able to afford a lawyer or access legal aid. Facing court alone can be daunting and stressful, and it could happen to anyone.

How your gift could help

Your gift:

  • enables the PSU to help the growing number of people facing court alone
  • helps the PSU set up new units across England and Wales
  • keeps our current units sustainable and accessible

Any gift is greatly appreciated. A gift of just 1% of your estate can make an enormous difference to people’s lives.

Different ways to leave your gift

There are two main ways you can remember the Personal Support Unit in your will.

  • A residuary gift: This is where you set aside a portion (or all) of your remaining estate, after all debts, bills and taxes have been paid and all gifts distributed. The advantage of this type of gift is that its value is not affected by inflation.
  • A pecuniary gift: This is a cash gift of a fixed amount of money. This is most effective when you link your will with inflation, or review your will regularly, as the impact of inflation may mean the true value of this gift could become less than you intended.

Next steps

  1. Speak to your solicitor: If you have decided you would like to leave the PSU a gift after you have taken care of your loved ones, we would recommend you speak to your solicitor who will be able to advise you on all key matters.
  2. Get in touch: We understand that making a will is confidential, personal and should be done in your own time. If you decide to leave a gift and would like to let us know, or would like more information, please contact Emma Taylor, Head of Fundraising, by email, emma.taylor@thepsu.org.uk, or phone, 0207 947 6358.
